I can definitely agree with these points and I can relate to the boredom. If it wasn't for the fact that my mom pushed me to explore the world constantly, who knows where I would be now.

As it is, I have a major exam I am studying for and since I never learned how to study ever, I'm failing at trying to teach myself material because I just absorbed everything in a traditional manner at school while still doing other things (crosswords/sudoku/learning Japanese while sitting in class).

Ah yes, the not knowing how to study thing. I forgot to mention, but yeah, that was a major issue for me, too.

it's incredibly frustrating because I've never been a bad test taker because it was always stuff I knew and used. It's one reason I'm a terrible tutor because I just understand concepts and can do them, but trying to explain it to someone else is another story.

I have actually tutored kids, which I must say did actually help me as well.

Tutoring peers as I learn the subject is one thing but for example, when I was in high school, I couldn't tutor someone in elementary/middle school. Mostly math concepts where you build so much from the basics that I wouldn't remember how to do the old concepts when the newer stuff was easier and made more sense.

The best way to study is to write everything down by hand, quiz yourself, and get enough sleep.

Also, I'm a little amused by the lack of study skills = smart thing that seems to be happening in this thread. A lot of people don't study until college, because high school is cake.

Except I finished college and grad school easily and with fairly good grades without ever learning how to study. So yes, high school was cake, but to me, so was college and even grad school wasn't much of a challenge.

Are you studying for a licensing exam or something? If it's a formal exam that take a couple days, you should be able to just go through practice books with basic studying methods.
