This doesn't happen to me often, but the other day I was walking down the hall, glanced into my bedroom and saw a montage of Jon Stewart on television. The TV was on mute and for a moment I thought, "Holy shit, please don't let him be dead, he can't be dead". :(

(AND HE ISN'T, btw, should point that out, but it gave me a good scare.)

That is an entirely reasonable reaction.

I mis read the first one as "...only if Mel Gibson dies." and had to read it twice.

I did the exact same thing.

OMG, this. It happens to me all the time, especially when I read ONTD. The more celebrities die over a short period of time, the more scared I get the next headline will be about another death. It's weird, my mind immediately goes: "How long before Ian McKellen or Patrick Stewart are dead?" Or any other celebrity, they don't even have to be older, just people in general that I admire.

It's hard to shake it off. :(

Be ironic if Patrick Stewart dies before William Shatner though.

I actually had that recently with Amanda Bynes. I saw a post about her and Robin Williams and suddenly I had to check she didn't die.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-11 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I had the exact same reaction. It was something about crying about Robin Williams but laughing about Amanda Bynes, so I'm glad it wasn't just me who jumped to the same conclusion.

You realize she has Schizophrenia right? So her talking about her fathering abusing her, then taking it back and claiming brain implants isn't all that funny. It's actually pretty sad :/

I understood what they were saying, but for a moment I thought that she'd killed herself and dipshits were laughing about it (tweet in question as I saw it: "If you were sad about Robin Williams and you're laughing at Amanda Bynes, check yourself. Mental illness isn't a spectator sport." (https://twitter.com/_Snape_/status/520757607766949888))

DA I saw this too and I thought she had died and people were laughing at her. I wasn't laughing, I feel really sorry for her and hope she gets medical help.

I feel this every time I see a photoset of Maggie Smith on tumblr.

I have a friend who does this, with singers too. If a channel shows two movies in a row with the same actor or a radio station plays two songs in a row by the same artist, she briefly worries that person has died.

There's this thread on one forum I'm on called the Celebrity deathpool, and everytime I see it upped on the first page, I'm like "Who died now?"

I feel bad for Amanda B. She had to be involuntarily hospitalized again, and I hope that she finally gets to be around people who tell her she can't pretend she doesn't have Schizophrenia anymore. She's going to hurt herself.

Same, it's silly, especially when they're young but the brief moment of 'oh no' is always there.

In the UK there is a little game we play for 70s era celebs when their name starts trending "Dead or Yewtree". Pick an option and take a shot if you are right. Picking "Yewtree" gets you drunk really quickly.
