Yeah! If I am going to see any id-laden "Character degrades themselves to save other Avengers", it better be Steve Rogers damnit.

There is not nearly enough Steve being all sacrificing and too much of Tony doing so. :((((((((

Part of the problem is just the nature of the genre. Most whump fic counts on a certain amount of "and then they'll be sorry" to carry it through. Steve is a legend and also a genuinely good person. Most of the people who don't like him are supervillains and Nazi sympathizers, and he doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. Self-sacrificing Steve is super-believable (hell, it's canon), but you can't rely on the standard fic tropes for it because it's hard to imagine a situation where everybody doesn't immediately rally around him.

Tony, on the other hand, is a colossal fuck-up who alienates people and wants to be a good person but is terrible at it. He's the kind of character that whump was made for.

TL;DR: Part of the reason there's so much more Tony whump is because he's the lazy choice. I also wish there was more in-character Steve-centric fic.
