I mostly remember her from ER.

I also remember this show. I used to like the book as a kid and thought the show was a really bad adaption.

My mom loves the book. She identified with Christy with the whole teaching thing (she teaches preschool.)

I have never been able to finish the book. It creeps me out that it's the daughter writing from the POV of her mom and there's all the romance and stuff in it and I'm just like, "YOU WROTE *THIS* ABOUT YOUR MOM?!!"

I like the show. It's cheesy and predictable. But it's also the only time my mom and I have ever come close to arguing about fandom. I think Dr. McNeil's a creeper and Christy and David are better suited. But my mom ships Dr. McNeil/Christy and I just kind of went, "HOW. HE'S AN ASSHOLE. HE MAKES HER FEEL STUPID AND INCOMPETENT ALL THE TIME." My mom just kind of shrugged and that was the closest we ever came to a fandom argument.

See, this is one place that I think the show misses it. It gets both David and Dr. McNeil wrong. In the book, it is clear that while McNeil is kind of an ass (mostly as a result of his traumatic past), David is the creeper. In the show, McNeil was both and David was much more genuinely nice than he ever was in the book. I honestly wondered if they would change the ending if they ever finished the story.

That being said, Tyne Daily was easily the best part of the show (as she is in most things she's in).
