Are *you* serious? Even games that are lauded as the best plotted games ever are only mediocre at best when compared with the plots of movies or books. Most games don't even hire dedicated writers.

Story isn't usually the main focus in video games. It isn't surprising that it'd take a back seat to gameplay, the most fun part.

That's something that's actually started to change in recent years. There are dedicated writers for some games now, and they're people who've cut their chops on books and screenplays.
