What I do do is read up a synopsis of the plot and love to have a walkthrough on hand to guide me through - my first playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins had me endlessly checking the DA wiki on how to get through quests and how to get through important plot dialogue for the outcome I want.
But then I also like spoilers for movies and shows before I watch them, because if there's a shocking plot twist I won't like, I am pre-warned and can watch through it without getting overly upset. That way I enjoy the drama without being overly stressed.
