Little things you're good at

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty good at coming up with ~20 character passwords and remembering them.

Packing stuff so it all fits, and finding my way around new places. Both of which would probably be more useful if I actually had the money to go anywhere more often, but being able to arrange/pack things well is surprisingly handy in a lot of places.

Finding my way, even around places where I'm a stranger. I mean, it's not like I never get lost - but, usually not for long.

The funny thing is, I must look comfortable, because I get asked for directions pretty much everywhere. So I guess I look local.

I'm not athletic in any other area, far from it, but I'm pretty agile and good at balance and climbing and things. I wish I could find a place to do high ropes around where I live, because I loved it so much at camp. It's probably the only exercise I enjoy.

Untying difficult knots. Knots that would make other people go, "Just cut the damn thing off."

I do not get mixed up by order of letters or numbers. If someone types the characters of a word out of order, I'll almost always notice. Same if they arranged the digits wrong in a number.

(I triple-checked this comment for spelling errors.)

Instinctively knowing how to work technology, reading 300+ page books in a few hours, being able to find almost anything on the internet, being really good with kids and animals, etc.

(Then again, I am vaguely autistic.)

I'm good at providing detailed instructions on how to go somewhere or perform a task. The funny part (to me at least) is that I still haven't found a way to put together instructions on how to do my job due to how detailed oriented I am (and I do get really wordy, can't you tell?)! (Like how to explain how to pull a proof of delivery on a shipment or how to decide when to issue credit on a shortage)

Yeap, detail oriented is always on my performance review, each and every time.

Bagging groceries. I'm often doing the baggers' job for them because otherwise I'd get bread underneath the cereal box.

Some people are SO bad at bagging. You don't put heavy things in with bread. Urgh. The only exception I make is eggs because the bread can act as a cushion (and I'd rather have my bread a bit smushed than shattered eggs).

Such an underrated skill.

Oh…and putting cold items together. Why do so many people miss this? It's common sense.

Building stuff with lego. I once made a stop motion short with them and the set looked very pro (except for the multicolored brick walls lol).

Is the short anywhere online for viewing? I love stopmotion.

Being able to Google the right generic terms to get the answer to a specific question. (In both technical and non-technical domains.)

Organization, I guess? (With my computer files for instance, though I'm not always up to date, I'm also good at backing most everything up.)

Er, also planning ahead (not necessarily long term, mind) and I think I'm getting pretty good at applying makeup!

I'm pretty good at coming up with titles for stories. In fact, I'm much better at coming up with titles than I am with finishing stories.

Remembering shit at work. I'm not just talking about how to do my job, but I work in a hospital and if I see a patient name I could probably tell you if they've been here before recently. I'll remember where someone was if they transferred floors, and a plethora of other 'useless' but handy things that have made me (unfortunately XD) the go-to person at my job,

Someone's answer to any question is usually, "Ask Sarah, she knows everything." XD

Also I'm really good with remembering numbers. Phone numbers, my bank card, SIN card, random log ins...

Typing super long number codes on the numpad. I probably only could tell you those numbers if I thought about it hard, but I can type it in super fast and precise.

I also have a great memory for random little facts, which has led to me giving the people I live with random "fun facts of the day" a lot.
