I don't HATE them. My dislike stems a bit from what I perceive to be their "generic-ness" for lack of a better word. I feel like they're in a slot that I'm being told I should just "get" but I don't. I just can't see a reason to invest in them.

Like, I can't relate to being a super villain overtaking the world. But I can relate to that villain's motivations maybe -- frustration with the political system, feeling out of control, etc.

But with love interests, I just find it exceptionally hard to find that common ground from which to see the story from their perspective. They feel…disposable to me. As awful as that sounds.
