I get not relating to them, but I don't get how that translates into disliking them.

In large part, I dislike it because I feel like they're taking away time that could be spent elsewhere and develop other aspects I find more interesting or compelling.

because slotted love interests are often flat and boring characters who are prizes to be won at the end of the film? like, the moment you see her you know she's fated to be the hero's girlfriend no matter what. she has no other destiny or purpose (except sometimes she dies.) boring.

Can I get examples of what you find flat and boring? A lot of times I find that the best way to know the main characters is how they interact with each other, including potential love interests. I rarely find "the love interest" flat and boring. In fact, with some of them, the only thing I feel is the need to know more about them. But I don't dislike them because the hero makes doe eyes at her.
