Ah, sorry for the confusion guys. I guess what i was trying to say wasn't that American kids couldn't handle Dahl growing up, just that American critics seem to take the most issue with Dahl's books. Most times when I hear someone saying that he's really dark and twisted, it's someone American. Like the Nostalgia Critic hating Matilda because he thought it was too unpleasant and awful for kids. It just surprises me.

Wasn't the NC talking specifically about the movie, though? I haven't watched that episode super recently, but it's totally possible he was talking specifically about the movie adaptation, which, while good IMO, has it's issues.

I might be getting him mixed up with someone else, but I think I remember him tying the book into the discussion as well, dropping remarks that Dahl was twisted and bitter or something. I may be wrong
