Well, I mean, they're aliens. So "POC" isn't the right term anyway.

The humans are all arguable, though. Especially since Word of God says that they're left intentionally "blank" so they can be whatever race/size/etc. you want them to be. (Whether or not this functions well or was in any way well-established by Hussie is another argument altogether, and one I'm frankly tired of having.)

You need to hang out with secret-maker #7, since you're both concerned that non-offensive things are offensive.

Or perhaps your the same OP. That's my theory.

The fandom loves to draw them humanized as all the races though. And technically with the caste system running on blood colour, they are literally trolls of colour.

Same with the kids, although less common.

I only know of Homestuck because of this comm but beyond the pics people use on their secrets, I don't know much else about it or why it's so popular. Because it's been out there for so long or something? No idea.

I've seen it argued as a variant of Dwarf Fortress syndrome--if you actually read it all, you have to like it, because you can't spend that much time and effort on something and not like it in the end.

I read all the way through Act 5 and I still found it shit, I was hoping something would happen since the trolls were touted as being so great

ugh

A staggering amount of it was produced very quickly. Updates came every day, so it could occupy a lot of your brain time if you followed it.

Oh yeah, same here! I've read snippets here and there, and that has been my impression too. Also their names + the fact that the fandom draws them as POCs reinforces that thought, imo.

Really, all of the Homestuck trolls have gray skin, black lips and hair, yellow nails and sclera, candy corn colored horns, and gray eyes that will eventually change to their caste's blood color with puberty. I personally don't see any earthling racial traits in this color scheme, but YMMV.
However, Hussey's assertion that the Homestuck sprites are only approximations is sheer marketing genius. Anyone may cosplay or draw or animate the characters in question with near total disregard for height, weight, racial background for the human characters, build, facial proportions, ad nauseam. This means that the fans don't have to worry about beginner's mistakes, lack of fashion model proportions, and what race they are / or like portraying.

I kinda got that vibe too when I finally read it, but I chalked it up to having seen a lot of humanized troll fanart on my dash where all of them are PoC. I always do a little double-take when I see humanstuck fic or fanart where any of the trolls are portrayed as white, before remembering that my headcanons aren't actually canon. =P

What kind of POC, OP?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-16 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Any particular race or cultural background?
Just trying to sate my curiosity.

Latino and Latina, Maori, African-American.

Try Googling "humanstuck", OP, and then clicking Images.
You will be richly rewarded.

I like it when people draw the Maryams as Indian.

/nothing else to add

It isn't offensive, but I'm sure lots of people will say it is.
