Well...yes and no. The thing is there are Slavic languages that are not in Cyrillic and they do handle similar sounds written out in Roman script.

I get the latinization might make it less correct in some ways, but for your average layman reader, it might not be the worst solution. If you have a feel for the language, you're more likely to be correct in how to pronounce it, but that goes for both Cyrillic and Roman scripts.
