Not Fandom: There's a difference between faking for attention and letting your flist know you're honestly scared you might be seriously ill.

Honestly, I know coming out and homophobia is an issue in some canons, and sometimes you have no choice but to address it (prime example being noble types falling for their own sex when they're obligated to marry a man/woman and have heirs), but there's a way to address it without turning it into OMG WE HAVE TO HIDE OUR RELATIONSHIP/WE MUST FIGHT THE EVOL OPPRESSORS WHO WISH TO OPPRESS OUR GAY!!!.

i know. but so many other fan fiction authors have pulled the 'i have a horrible disease' and everythings awful' scam to get popular or use their fandom status to get things that i'm just so afraid i'll be accused of doing the same thing. DX

I completely agree with sarajayechan (and glad someone else thought the same), since I was concerned about telling people I was sick and then ended up in the hospital. The only contact I had to let people know was through one person, and if it had not been for them, then I wouldn't have had any contact with my friends on LJ for nearly two weeks. And, undoubtedly, they would've been worried.

Let your friends know if you're concerned. And if it helps, explain what exactly you're concerned about (ie, your symptoms, etc). I find it helps me out especially, 'cause then I can use my journal for a record of my illness as well as means to let people know how I'm doing. If you're not doing it merely to seek attention, it'll become obvious, and you might even have someone on your flist who can help/make suggestions/etc.

I'm getting all soapboxy today, but if the canon is even remotely based in Earth culture, unless the characters grew up in Haight-Ashbury, you are gonna have to address serious gay issues if you want ANY realism at all. This isn't to give carte blanche for retarded angst for the sake of angst, but I think that is a little less common than some people on this comm believe =\
