2. I do love Tim Gunn. I find myself irritated by his views on a fashion a lot of the time Dude, I don't wear dresses-- ever. I'm not going to buy myself a nice sundress to go out walking because I don't like dressed. Also, he focuses on women who can walk into a high-class fashion store and pick out clothes that fit and doesn't seem to realize this is a problem.

36. I wouldn't mind Mylar at all, if people wrote it IC. That is, Sylar is a psychopathic murderer and Mohinder hates him. The problem with writing it IC is that the pairing is amazingly volatile and won't last because Sylar is an obsessive murdering bastard and Mohinder hates him...

42. The wank comms like it when people talk about them. ... This is new? Why are you surprised and/or gleeful?

Oh, I agree - but I think this is a flaw that inflicts most "high fashion experts", with certain exceptions. I'd still much rather have coffee with Tim than, say, Anna Wintour, though :D

I would too. That doesn't change the fact that while he's kind of fun to watch, his views on fashion tend not to be all that for me. I'd rather find someone who knows fashion but can handle larger women and people who don't dress like a conventional woman (like, say, Isaac Mizrahi.)

As a "middle American" person who has gone to school for fashion. I highly recommend the books The Science of Sexy by Bradley Bayou and Short Chic by Allison Kyle Leopold and Anne Marie Cloutier (though my copy of Short Chic is second hand so I don't know if you can still find it). Since I don't know your body type.

There are some of us who understand that runway models are 2% of the world population are not "real" or the "target" market. It was funny to sit in my design classes and have teachers pound into other girls heads that the average size in America is 12 and that they needed to know what Wal-Mart was. (I had one teacher who worked for Wal-Mart at one point and another who worked on Nascar branding, for them it was enlightening). They were rather shocked by the idea that size 8 while the standard fashion size, was not the standard American size. (Me, I wanted to know where they grew up. *so confused at times*)

Oooh, those books sound awesome (I'm a Gender Studies major, most of my interest is academic. Also, my mother does textile/wearable art, so I know more than I ever particularly wanted to know about fashion...)

Oof. That does sound like fun. The fashion industry has some really skewed standards. It's interesting to watch from the outside, but thinking about how it affects our culture in general tends to make my head hurt. (They may have grown up in fashionista communities. Or in suburban communities where there was a lot of pressure to be thin. God knows.)

Ooooh, gender studies. Yeah, fashion has a major impact on the female gender. o_o I had to take at least one psychology class about it. I don't recommend the textbooks for that class (though The Meanings of Dress has a lot of now out of date articles that are can be interesting) my professor at the time told us we should by The Language of Clothes by Alison Lurie, an English professor at Cornell University. An entire book about what a person is saying when they put on their clothes, everything from facial hair to lingerie and trends. It's a nice overview.

Yeah, the standards are very skewed. The average model wears industry six. LOL They are all underweight and don't look nearly as pretty with the makeup off. It does give young girls particularly, a skewed idea of how a woman is supposed to look and the things they do to either attain that standard or because of that standard are sickening. *Shakes head* It's one reason I don't want to do a runway show anymore, other than the fact runway shows are highly stressful and boring as hell.

I wish there was more education in schools about fashion. Especially so younger girls could understand that the reason these models are used is because they have wide shoulders, small hips and are tall. They are walking hangars. Sad, huh.

I have a feeling a lot of the girls in my class came from rich areas, cities or other countries. o_o
