2. I read another comment on here where the OP said the horrible pictures were chosen on purpose... how is that validating your point exactly? If you were to chose the best of the best and it STILL looked horrible, then maybe I would be able to agree with you. As it stands, it's just another form of fashion. It's not your fashion, so what? I'm sure I could find pictures of people wearing something Tim recommends in compeletely the wrong way. [I'm sorry, I really do love you Tim!]

9. You started watching Haruhi for this pairing? Man. I know Haruhi isn't for everyone, so I don't see why you continued watching it if you hate her character so much. Anyway, #1 isn't going to happen, and #2 is subjective. Season two's Haruhi should be a little... different, at least? Um, at least there's a lot of fanart for Itsuki/Kyon?

As for why I like Haruhi, she's exciting. She's my opposite in a lot of ways. I wish I had the guts like her to act how I feel and not care how other people saw me. She's also extremely spontanious, something I'm also not. Mostly, I liked watching her evolve over the course of the series. Maybe you didn't see it, but she did become a lot more understanding of others and calmed down a bit as the series went on. Of course, she probably also has Kyon to thank for a lot of that.

30. I totally agree. I ship Ten/Martha and Nine/Rose. As much as I love David Tennant, the chemistry between Ten and Rose just wasn't as good in my opinion. It seemed forced.

36. Reaction to Sylar/Maya huh?

The point that this stuff can look bad, does look bad, costs too much, is impractical for normal body types (i.e, impractical), and yet still somehow ends up in a magazine? I think I proved that point pretty well. That is not the worst of the worst, to be sure, and as I've said somewhere before, a million photoshopped-to-hell pictures won't change my mind. I think EGL looks costume-y at best, but God forbid if I dare say that to a "true loli".

It's not my form of fashion, and I do think those things about it. So I made a secret, pretty much to that effect.

And to add to this, the examples I've chosen (I can't believe I'm even defending them) actually don't look that bad - at least they're adhering to all the ridiculous rules of the trend. No petticoat flashing, no hoochie element, all the pieces in place - those people are doing it right! They just happen not to be extremely attractive, and the outfits are not particularly flattering to their bodies, so the very fact that most people agree with me that those just aren't good looks, I think that's rather telling.

If I really wanted to choose a "Doin' It Wrong" example, I would have pulled out some lolitafucks survivors. These are just the middlings of the pack.

They're definitely not the worst. I've just seen better, so I can't completely dismiss the style as 'bad.'

Ok, yes, please don't even go there. DX

What the hell is lolitafucks?

For someone who claims to hate loli, you sure seem knowledgeable about it.

For knowing about l_f? Oh man, all I needed was an interest in fashion and an internet connection. Actually, I rescind that: you don't even need to care about fashion. You don't find lolitafucks, lolitafucks finds you.

Well, that wasn't what I took from your secret, but on that part I can agree with you a bit. I don't think those pictures you posted are good enough for any sort of publication but, well, there they are. But at the same time I have seen good lolita and if it works for someone, then it works for them. It certainly won't work for everyone, but can't the same thing be said of most fashion?

Re: 2

(Anonymous) 2007-12-19 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Theonly thing I would say is that EGL designers market their products like their fashion should be for everyone by blasting it across pop culture - that's why you see so many teenie boppers shelling out their parents' money for these ridiculously expensive dresses, or older women bulldozing their bodies into outfits that are just totally wrong for them. I wouldn't say the same applies to most fashion - couture, to be sure, but then again how many people really think they have what it takes to wear couture? Most commercial fashion is usually designed with the everyday person in mind, and so long as you choose the right size and color, it generally doesn't provoke the kind of "OMG WTF" reaction that, yeah, lolitafucks got. (Kill me.)

I can accept EGL as an edgy sort-of subculture, but as a fashion? Maybe more like a fad, and one that I hope goes away in time.

[identity profile] haruhiism.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
So yeah, it's not for everyone and it shouldn't be advertised as such. I agree with you on that. Its definitely not the same as commercial fashion, but there is a niche market for it. I'm certainly not going to go out and buy it, but I'm not going to bash it either, and I like looking at it occasionally like I do other fashions.

It probably is a fad, but I still don't see how that makes it any less fashion. Maybe I just have a broader idea of what fashion means. To me, it's clothes. Just that. Well no, that's probably not completely right. Fashion to me is something with a definable style, and you can't deny that lolita is definable, for better or worse.

More people who write Sylar with their stupid OCs, actually.
