how...? honest question, how would you and OP make a connection like that? I've used FFN for years and I've never even heard of being weirded out that someone favorites all your stuff.

Mostly it's the "putting on alert" part. Well, either they are doing something strange or they just haven't figured out how the functions work, which may also be the case, of course.

People probably just tick all the boxes or however it works on FFN these days. No matter if they just don't really know "how it works" or just want to give the author as many good vibes as possible, it's no reason to be annoyed. I really don't get this mindset that there could be ulterior motives - in my experience, those people aren't subtle at all, they will leave the review that goes something like "Hey great fic please read mine, it's about blahblahblah and read it!"

Yeah, that is a fair point. But it doesn't bother me much either way.
