It's mindsets like yours that are fucking up fandom for the rest of us.
Mindsets like mine? I don't have a rival.
Yeah because turning something that's supposed to be fun into a fucking stupid pissing contest is a great idea.
Some people really enjoy competition. Contests have been around in fandom for a long time, that's proof enough of that. People take them with various degrees of seriousness and emotional involvement; competition can be healthy and fun.

I would say mindsets like yours, that engage in bad faith and always assume the worst and malice, are doing fandom a lot more harm.

According to you "having a fandom rival that fires you up to write fanfiction out the sheer will to compete" = pissing contest.
Assuming you're airt :)

Compete over something that actually matters if that's what you're so desperate to do.
You got some serious displaced anger bro. I'm not a naturally competitive person, so you're venting in the wrong direction. But just because I'm not competitive, doesn't mean I have to see competition as an inherently negative or unhealthy thing.
I suggest you read this. Competition can be healthy, enjoyable, and a perfectly mature thing. Bad behavior is not a necessary (or wanted) part of most competitions.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-23 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)Like, not everyone who gets fired up by competition behaves like a deranged shipper in a shipping war. A lot of people just quietly use it to push themselves to get better at their craft.
