digression, but i'm so fond of this movie.

It wasn't the fucking that disturbed me about this movie, it was Maude killing herself.

It was never mentioned that Maude was ill, or in pain, just that she was old. WTF? Being old is no reason to need to die.

Stupid, stupid ending. I loved the movie up to then, but really.

I actually liked that they had sex, but I can see how it would disturb you if you found strong parallels in it to something that happened to you.

Maude was never Harold's teacher, though. It was fine if they had sex. It's not directly comparable, really.

She didn't need to die. She just wanted to.

You don't have to be ill or in pain to want to die.

I always came away thinking she wanted to die at a time she chose and was satisfied with.

I thought it was visually implied that she knew she had somethig not stated but bad, and that's why she wanted to go out on her own terms. But it's been years since I saw it so I could be misremembering.

You're not the only one who didn't know. I was definitely... surprised. But I was also relatively young to be watching it (11 or 12, I want to say) and hadn't heard of it before.

I didn't know that either, so you're not alone, at least?

Yay! A Harold and Maude secret! This movie might be the reason I don't mind manic pixie dream girls (and boys), but I super loved the may-december romance going on too.

Though now I'm kinda trying to remember what movies or tv do highlight the cross-gewerration friendships between men and women.
