How was your day?

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-10-24 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I spent the day watching Babylon 5 and playing on Flight Rising because I managed to finish my homework for the week early and treated myself.

In other amusing things, we've been making plans to stay with my sister's boyfriend's family for Thanksgiving. And I kind of think he might propose. He's been going out of his way to do things to try to impress me and make me like him. Today, he was telling me we're doing a Lord of the Rings marathon and was asking what my favorite foods were. The whole thing is amusing me since I already like him and I find this whole trying to impress the sister thing adorable.

Work seemed to last for 12 billion hours. :/ Such a long day. But, some drama is going down in my town. I guess some teacher is going on a missionary trip to Rwanda over Thanksgiving break. And people are freaking out. They are totally sure she is going to infect everyone with Ebola when she comes back. Even though Rwanda has not had a single case of Ebola and is very far away from any countries who have.

I don't get the ebola panic. I really don't. It isn't airborne. That seems to be pretty common knowledge. The few cases in the west have been the result of either traveling to a country with it or the result of a hospital not properly dealing with bodily fluids of infected people. And all of this is common knowledge.

Loooong mostly.

But then I come how to my car insurance bills - well, there goes money.

I wore a new dress and it made me feel awesome. I felt even more awesome when I realized the sale was over and my $50 dollar dress is now $100. Fuck yeah for good timing.

The actor, Sean Harris, might do it if it was for art and if he got to go deeeeep into the head of the character he was playing.

The character, Micheletto Corella, would cut somebody for even suggesting such a thing. Then he might take the dress home and try it on in private.

i spent the afternoon in the park drinking beer with two very good friends (a very perceptive female friend and the guy i have a jupiter-sized crush on, so yeah) and then ate pizza with them. we couldn't finish it and spent the next two hours complaining about it and commiserating. then he drove me home and i wish i had kissed his lips instead of his cheek.

he is! i just don't know if he reciprocates my feelings. as far as i know i'm just a friend to him, and i don't wanna ruin this friendship, you know? i'd rather have him as a friend than not have him at all.

That's a very valid concern. In cases like this, I think it helps to remember that things don't have to be awkward and pretending (even if you have to fake it) that it isn't awkward goes a long way toward retaining a sense of normalcy. Sort of like, "Hey, do you want to go on a date sometime? No? Ah, well, can't blame a girl for trying. How about that last episode of Sleepy Hollow, was that insane or what?"

You're neutralizing the situation by ensuring the other person that there's no reason to pull away because nobody is going to go apeshit just because they got turned down for a date.

We had some electricians out to fix some stuff in the house. They didn't fix my bedside table lamp, but they did fix the track lighting on my ceiling-- I assumed it wasn't fixable as it is older than I am, but they got it going.

They also solved a mystery that had surrounded our family for 15+ years: We own a tall floor lamp that belong to my grandmother and that dates back to the 1940s at the very least, and probably the 1930s. This lamp is older than my dad. It takes some ridiculously huge kind of bulb that is extremely hard to find (I think they are actually now illegal/restricted to sell in CA). Because it is such an energy hog/heat issue, we basically on turn the lamp on when we have company. One of the nice electrician dudes took a look at it and did a little research and thinks he has identified the exact size base the lamp uses and recommended a converter ($9 on amazon) that should allow it to take energy-efficient bulbs. Hell, any modern bulb will be better than the ostrich eggs this thing uses.

Pretty unproductive.
I'm behind on my job search already, and a day spent playing Borderlands uninterrupted was not what I needed. My shit needs to be gotten together.

Still, Borderlands is pretty sweet.

Really long, but productive. Also came home from work super tired, so I was a bit crabby. (Also have some medical procedures coming up to help diagnose whatever GI issues I might have, which the doc thinks might be gastroparesis, aka weak stomach walls, but I won't know for sure until after a test and an endoscopy, ughhh)

Then I found out Steve Blum is going to be at ECCC next year, which was something I needed to hear for a variety of reasons. Awwwwww yeah!!!

I slept through most of the day (woke up at 4 in the afternoon), so fairly unproductive. I got started on cleaning my flat though, so that's something at least.

It was mostly good... Until I had to go into work on my day off for a mandatory meeting that wasn't even important. All they talked about was improving scores from customers, the seasonal product coming out, and health insurance. WE HAD TO WEAR OUR UNIFORMS FOR THIS. THIS STUFF THE MANAGERS COULD HAVE QUICKLY TOLD US. THERE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT GO. I HOPE THEY GET WRITTEN UP. I MISSED ATLA RERUNS FOR IT. I was not needed in any way. I had to drive back home with a headache, needing to use the bathroom because some old lady was going to be in the bathroom for 10 fucking minutes doing god knows what, and then through different waves of traffic happened because 1) someone was pulled over by a cop and 2) there was a car on the side of the freeway. Then I got stuck because some old asshole who couldn't decided if he wanted to go the speed of traffic or slower in the fucking fast lane and I couldn't go around because the other asshole in the other lane couldn't drive either.

Reasonably okay.

attended my first con! It was just a mini con at the local library, various vendor booths and some panels by locals on various topics, but it was good fun and a nice starter experience. Probably better to slowly escalate than go to ComiCon first off.

Pretty average until I picked up my daughter from preschool. Came home to see a package from Godiva on my doorstep. (Early 6th anniversary present) Let Kaitlin play until it got dark then went inside and made Mummy dogs for dinner.

The furshlugginer Giants lost. But other than that, it was a good day! I did some cleaning and some shopping and chilled with some coffee for a while. And also drank some beers during the Giants game. So not so bad.

Tiring for various reasons. Had a tricky patient and now I can look forward to a weekend of homework and one shift at my other job. Still, I think I can throw in a few fun fandom things here and there.
