depends on what character you're focusing on. reyna was the reigning queen of the book and her parts were the highlights. personally, i think the reyna/nico frendship was the best, most solid friendship riordan has written in the pjo universe, ever.

but everything else wrt to nico (and leo valzez) was a bit of a mess. here's a good SPOILERY meta on that.

i do give kudos for riordan for actually trying with the lgbt representation, although i understand other fans not feeling quite as generous.

I knew i had read his name somewhere in the series and how...minimal...his role was. It almost kind of seems like pair the spares, but i'm not even halfway through.

there was a reply before i coud edit, but i'd also like to add that there was no conceivable way to satisfactorily wrap-up nico's storyline in the very last book of Hoo when, despite the enormous amount o crap swung at him, he's been a side character for most of the series and used and forgotten at riordan's convenience.

too much to deal with, not enough time.

I did love his relationship with Reyna. I would have been perfectly happy for them to go off to conquer the world together (platonically). That would have been way better than what did happen, IMHO.

Ehh, I figured he ended up with a healer because it's a cliche. Light and dark, life and death. They're opposites. And it's nice that he has someone he likes who's worrying about his health and whatnot. Plus they both have insecurities about their fatherly gifts. Honestly, they're kind of perfect for each other.
