Eek, people pronounce Nicole Nick-awl where you are? Here in the US, it begins with Nick, but ends with Coul, not Cawl.

Not where I live but down south a bit. That "A" sound is particularly hard sounding. It's not pretty sounding to the lilting Geordie ear.

Then again, I suppose we have some unpleasant sounding words.
