True, but at this point it might matter more that the EU possesses a lot more artillery then Ukraine alone does.

Well Britain wouldn't have bankrupted itself in WW2 if it had just Hitler have Poland instead of Stalin. Hitler didn't even want the British Isles. Appeasement would have worked for Britain, and possibly France too (although there was that little matter of that railway carriage to complicate the French matter there), goodness knows war certainly didn't. Appeasement sure worked out for America too, it made a fortune selling to Germany and positioned itself to seize global power from Britain and France post-war. Appeasement sucked for the Czechs and Poles though. So you really cannot say appeasement is bad or good, it has to be qualified. Right now appeasing Russia would work out well for Western Europe, it would be neutral for the US (verging to bad, because it would diminish American soft-power in the region), and sucky for the parts of Ukraine that do not want to be part of Russia (although it would be a lottery win for the bits of Ukraine that do want to be Russian again).

Do you really think Hitler would have stopped at Poland?

And do you really think it would've been okay to let Germany exterminate the people it didn't like?

Wow, who knew that Hitler was such a reasonable guy? He'd have stopped, if only we'd given him what he wanted. But he apparently didn't want everything? I don't know where you're getting this from.

I suppose with Putin, we just have to find out how much he wants and give it to him, and hope we're not grouped in the "appeasement" category.

You really don't understand early-20th-Century German geopolitical theory, then. Yes, if Hitler had been content with the Sudetenland and a big chunk of Poland, the war could have been short.

But he wasn't.
