Dara means 'oak' (the county Kildare comes from 'cil doire', church of the oak) or alternately 'wealthy/fertile', depending on derivation, and it's a traditional name from Irish mythology that's attached to several kings, princes and champions in legend, including the owner of the Brown Bull of Cooley in the Táin Bó Cuailnge.
