YA is having a serious moment lately. There's bound to be some backlash. Don't worry about it. There are more people reading and writing the genre than ever before. You literally have the possibility of making thousands, even millions, of fans. Or just making a living! Go for the gold, OP, and don't let anybody get you down. Let the critics enjoy themselves and, I don't know, whatever they think is well written. Maybe something naval-gazingy or something else about serial killers. (Can you tell what genres I'm not a fan of?) ;)
