And that's fine! I mean, I don't mean that in any kind of minimizing way. Good stories are rad and I like good stories a lot. There's nothing wrong with liking a good story. It is absolutely OK to write books for the sole reason of creating something entertaining and I by no means want to stop anyone from writing YA fiction or any other kind of entertaining story.

But a good story and a piece of work that's artistically meaningful are two different things, and I think that artistic meaning is just basically more significant and important than something that is only a good story.

At least, that's the way I happen to feel about it.

ok, two questions:

1. Why aren't good stories artistically meaningful?
2. Why is artistic meaning* more significant and important than good stories?

*Also, what is "artistic meaning" and does it have an objective definition?
