Yes. GamerGate has become psycho-bait, and not all of the psychos are GamerGaters...

But a lot of them are GamerGaters.

Meanwhile, the majority of us just want to kill polygon zombies with out level 99 wizards.

And gaming had JUST become mainstream and moved beyond the "basement neckbeard" stereotype, with even a prominent NFL player admitting he was a gamer, and then these chucklenuts come along and ruin everything. Now pretty much every time a guy brings up the fact that he likes video games, he'll have to quickly tell them "No, I'm not like those guys."

I wonder if that's another thing they're going for. Look how stereotypical gamers talk about it, they act like people are stealing something from them, especially when the gamer they're talking about is more successful than them (or female, etc.)

(Anonymous) 2014-10-29 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, there are an equal amount of psychos on both sides, imo.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-29 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? How many male gamers have been driven from their homes by rape and death threats credible enough for federal investigations?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-29 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
At least two (One of them https://twitter.com/ForemanErik/status/522529173705736192), a few others have lost their jobs due to people harassing the people at their workplace, a lot have received threatening emails, phonecalls and got doxxed.

And don't be ridiculous. A man reporting a rape threat getting taken seriously enough for federal investigations? Please.

Except these half-baked attempts at vigilante justice probably wouldn't have happened if Gamergate wasn't a thing. I'm not saying that rape threats aren't horrible, the folks who put those out are just as terrible as the 'Gaters who forced Zoe, Anita, and Brianna out of their homes, but you can't go painting these guys as innocent victims of evil SJWs if you look at the crowd they roll with.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-29 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The crowd they roll with still doesn't justify those things. A+ victim blaming there.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-29 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey now, it's not victim-blaming when they do it.
