I agree that fandom has always been like this, but to be fair to the OP, if you're deeply into a single fandom and suddenly it goes sour, you start noticing it happening everywhere (confirmation bias).

That was my guess about what happened to the OP.

It can be very easy to only visit the same few places online. If they go sour, it feels like the whole internet/all fandoms have gone down the drain, but really it's just that small corner.
