I just personally don't like all these Canadian rock/pop/punk/Top 40/whatever the hell you want to call them bands with whiny-voiced male vocalists who sound like they've barely hit puberty. Marianas Trench, Hedley, Faber Drive, Down With Webster, etc. At least Chad Kroeger sounds like his balls have dropped! I love me a deep manly voice. But it's just personal preference.

I love Maraianas Trench!! I love all their songs and I'm very lucky to have seen them live twice! (First at an exhibition and the second in a local arena.) They are so great and I love his voice, all their songs, and just. Yeah.

I also love the other bands that get hated a lot like Hedley. I get it if it's not your type of music, but why the hell are they HATED.?????

Okay am I misreading this secret or are you saying Canadian music isn't good? I'd tend to think that the Arcade Fire, New Pornographers, Stars, Cold Specks, Broken Social Scene, Diamond Rings, the Rural Alberta Advantage, Dan Mangan, Sarah Slean, Neil Young, The Guess Who, Tegan and Sara, Alexisonfire, City and Colour, Sarah Harmer, Basia Bulat, Bell Orchestre, Metric, Library Voices, Jeremy Fisher, Hawksley Workman, Dragonette, Snowblink, Wintersleep, Corb Lund, BTO etc. are pretty good (like music is literally the only form of media/entertainment where I think I could survive on Canadian content alone)

You're misreading: I'm saying they're music is very good. the S!B is the reaction I get from all the people I've mentioned them too.

I'm from the US, living in Canada. It's completely uncool to like... pretty much any music from here. Something about the affirmative action-style rules they have, requiring 60% minimum Canadian content on all radio stations (and TV?) originating from within the country, I think?

Arcade Fire's ok to like, since they're Quebecois, and Tegan and Sara are still considered more queer crowd, where I am. But there are so many Canadian bands I enjoy, and get flak for. ToT

Maybe, fro these guys, it's 'cause I'm mostly in Toronto. ;P

Ah, I'm fourth gen Calgarian and out west people seem fairly proud of the national music scene. ..as long as it isn't Nickelback, Beiber, Avril or Celine Dion...ok so maybe he non indie scene is less than ideal.
