I really found the episode over the top and thought they mishandled Paige's character. It felt like she should have been more in the forefront considering how much stress the rest of the few was with the circumstances. It might just be me though.

IA

And honestly, I think it would be a better show if they made her more prominent in general.

In fact... yeah, fuck it, she should be the main character instead of Walter.

Yes! I very much agree with all that.

Granted I can see making her feel out her place because she's the newest member of the group but considering how self-assured she was in the first episode I don't understand why she's not being a bit firmer in some of her interactions.

I find this very funny because I think she is way too prominent and am about to stop watching because of that.

The one ep I tried to watch of this show, I couldn't even finish it. The writing was horrible and the acting was as bad. The main guy was so wooden, he'd best not stand next to an open flame.

I didn't even care whether the victims got saved or not. Unfortunately, it seems to be doing well in the ratings.

What is this show? Besides new, I mean.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-31 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's a show that's based loosely on the life of Walter O'Brien who is a computer expert/genius. In the series this Walter is aided by a crew of other geniuses to fight crime as directed by a government handler. Adding to the crew is a waitress who is brought in because she can help 'translate' the crew to the world and the world to the crew while, in turn, they help her understand her gifted son.

It's important to point out that the real-life Walter O'Brien is a ridiculous human being who almost certainly just made up a whole bunch of crazy shit about how awesome he is, and that the show completely reflects this.

Thanks for the synopsis. That sounds like barrel scraping. Yeesh.

The anon above had a good explanation. I tend to think of it as The Big Bang Theory meets Hawaii Five-0.

I agree that this show is ridiculous but I still find it entertaining.

Also, did anyone else think it seemed like this guy was Walter's ex and they had a bad breakup or something? Obviously that's not what actually happened but it kind of came across that way to me. (Or maybe I'm just crazy, that's always a possibility. :D)

No, I was getting that vibe, too. I was seriously half-waiting for that to be the reveal instead of "I sent him to a mental institution."

Ok, I'm glad it's not just me! The way everyone kept going on about their relationship, I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd gone in that direction.

That is exactly how it came across, especially that it was a toxic one. Happy being the best friend who kept Walter from spiralling put into nasty breakup damage control too.

Yeah, that's definitely how it seemed to me (about the way Happy was reacting to the whole situation), but I hadn't seen anyone else who interpreted it that way so I thought maybe I was just imagining things.

I dunno, this is one of those shows were you hang your suspension of disbelief on the highest skyscraper you can find and just go with it to enjoy the characters. If the characters aren't doing it for you - yeah, I can see why you would bail.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-10-31 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much when they brought that OTT total fucking douchebag in, that's when I was saying, "Oh shit, he's just using this to get Walter's attention, isn't he?"

And then later

"What, no stern lecture from Cabe to Walter about how his yandere thing with TFD nearly wrecked shit beyond all recovery"?

I would have at LEAST expected a lecture on how if Walter has the brains, he should be able to read the signals of manipulation, knowing it's happened before. (Sure, eventually Walter deduced it, but he should've totally vetoed TFD's entry into the reactor ops room from the get-go.

Of course, had he done that sensible thing a ~50 minute show would've collapsed into about 15 minutes, and it all hinged on nobody stopping and asking, "What does TFD have to gain by claiming a decommissioned reactor is in danger of going blooey?"

Especially when it became obvious from the beginning he had a special bone to pick with Walter.

Anyway, I'm spiralling out here, so I'll stop and just say this was the jump-the-shark moment for me for this TV series.
