Aw, I'm a little disappointed that this isn't another in the series of Star Trek not!secrets.

Just a little.

I agree that queer baiting actually is a thing and has been used and deluded fans numerous times *cough* Supernatural *cough* Sherlock *cough*

But Adventure Time can't really fall into that area because
It's intended for children, so even if the creators attempted to portray the same-gender relationship as canon, the network would definitely not allow it

I know that Adventure Time has a huge adult fanbase outside of the 7-13 y/o kid demographic (hell, I'm 17 and I watch it) and they have gotten away with a TON of vulgar humor on that show.

But because it's an American television show on a popular network, there is almost no chance of that ever happening on the show.

I know it sucks.

This-- it's NOT queerbaiting, it's the creator not being able to put a canon queer relationship into the show.

People who work on the show have gone on record. Marceline's VA and Penn Ward discussed the fact that he did write them as exes, and that he's aware it will probably never make it to the screen.

I think it might be more defined in the comic?

Also -- the "official" art for them seems to present them pretty unequivocally as a romantic couple.

Well, the current comic storyline has Finn kinda-sorta skipping ahead in time more than once, and in the future, it turns out the Candy and Vampire kingdoms have united into one Candy-Vampire Kingdom, and Bubblegum and Marceline are co-Queens. Nothing's been made explicit, unfortunately, but it's even closer than the show.

C-c-c-combo Breaker!!

(Sorry, just had to say that, because Star Trek N!S the last few days and all)

But yeah, at this point I'd rather they just out and clarify Bubblegum and Marceline's relationship (and what type it is/was)... but given CN/Standards & Practices asked the people on 'Clarence' to censor a m/m kiss in one of the more recent episodes, it'll probably never happen. :T

I didn't really watch the show because I wasn't particularly interested. After it premiered the most I heard about it was the whole sexual harassment incident.

But I'm impressed that they at least attempted to get that past the censors. It's not much, but it's still some progress.

Who are these Standards and Practices people, and how do we get them fired?

I thought they did? I could swear I read a piece where one of the creators stated that they had indeed dated in the past.

(damned if I can find it now.)

lol, qeer

I think this is a genuine secret. Try saying you think that pairing is just "qeerbaiting" and not completely wonderful in some sections of Adventure Time fandom and you'll get short shrift.

Myself, I love it, but I understand how it could be annoying when it's not even canon and yet so many fans act as if it is.

Hey Assface before you start tossing around slurs maybe you should educate yourself. The creator of the show has confirmed that Marceline and Princess Bubblegum are canon. The only reason it won't appear on the show is because it won't make it past the cartoon network censors.
