Tips For Giving a Cat Eye Drops

My poor old cat has an eye infection and that means I have to give him five drops a day. At first he was really chill about it but either he's feeling better or just plain seeing better, because he's fighting me now. Bless his furry little heart he never unsheathes a claw, but he struggles and blinks at just the worst moments, and we both get covered in steroid drops.

The most effective thing I did was pile onto him to get him to stay down flat while I angled his head toward me (this way he couldn't get too far), but I down want to lie down on the floor on my stomach, on a cat with only my cleavage keeping him from slipping away five times a day.

I had to give my kitty eyedrops once, and it was no fun at all for him. I tried to lessen the experience a bit by giving him a small treat right before and right after, and spoke really gently to him during the drops.

From my friend who is a vet tech: Scruff it tight and kinda lean the head back. It should immobilize the cat in a way so you can do the drops.

I tried this and it worked! Although my mom held the cat while I did the drops. But even before when she would hold him for me he'd turn his face toward her.

See if you can get anyone to help hold the thing while you get the eye drops in.

Unfortunately, cats are terrors like that. Try grabbing the scruff and pinching it tight. Otherwise, try wrapping it in a pillow case to keep it from flailing too hard.
