People are so sensitive these days. ...Well, maybe that's not true. I just think that this is the first time in history that a 42-year-old can get lectured by an 8-year-old in a Youtube comment because neither of them had the proper situational information.

The internet is still in its infancy, so we're still getting used to people's uninhibited reactions to blocks of text.

In my opinion, the framework for courtesy over the internet doesn't exist yet, because there's nothing to support that framework.

But in the meantime, it's important to maintain a sense of humor while browsing, and to not use the internet like an antidepressant. The onus of one's own emotions is on the consumer, not the provider.

And that's the perfect scapegoating argument for those who fail to take responsibility for their behavior. "It's always the other person's fault for getting upset at deliberately cruel, demeaning comments!" "It's their fault they don't have a thicker skin!" "It's their fault they mistook my intention!" "Why did they take it so seriously?" "It's so easy to mistake tone on the internet!" "If you don't like my nasty vicious tone, that's too bad for you!"

Grow the fuck up and own the shit you say. Just because it's on the internet doesn't magically make it not real, and doesn't magically mean it doesn't have consequences.
