I love the movie but I find Tolkein's writing style very plodding and tough for me to get through. I know there are people who love the detailed descriptions but for me it's rather in one ear and out the other. However, I wouldn't come down on someone for spoiling things unless I had said "please don't tell me." and they did anyway. But only jerks do that.
