That makes a lot more sense. I don't fully agree (time doesn't heal all wounds, etc), but it's certainly not as blaming as I feared. I think it's much more important what the specific reaction is. I think a person has every right to still be hurt, even angry, about their experiences. No one has the right to be an asshole to people that didn't do anything to them, like Snape did to his students and, really, everyone else.

Also, complaining about bullying ≠ identifying with Snape ≠ turning into an asshole. Bullying should be complained about, by anyone and everyone. It can do real damage, some people get it much more severely than others, and not everyone can grow out of it.

Actually it is exactly as blaming as you feared. Note that it says "assholes as children" - in other words, you must have been a nasty Snape figure if you complain about Griffyndor bullying in the book.
