(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)as for the subject of the secret, i don't get how you can be taken aback by her implying she's had sex in her songs. she wrote a song about john mayer on speak now for goodness sake. do you think all they did together was play guitar and talk about music?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)Personally, I've never heard the song, but reading the lyrics, some things do jump out at me. I'm not saying this is what she intended, but the lyrics can be interpreted in a different way.
There's this: "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?/The girl in the dress cried the whole way home" - could be his playing in general, but this to me could also mean an intimate night that went sour when he got what he wanted
And this: "Or maybe it's you and your sick need to give love then take it away." - sex could be part of the expressions of love, such as, he'll give sex but be ambivalent with emotional intimacy
She brings up the age thing a lot: "Don't you think nineteen's too young to be played by/Your dark twisted games when I loved you so"
And then there's this: "You are an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry" - inappropriate boundaries?
But then, I'm thoroughly convinced Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" is about buttsex, so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt.
