i agree.

as for the subject of the secret, i don't get how you can be taken aback by her implying she's had sex in her songs. she wrote a song about john mayer on speak now for goodness sake. do you think all they did together was play guitar and talk about music?

I don't get my reaction either. But as for Dear John, there was nothing at all in the lyrics that talked sex or even hinted at it (not that I'm saying there wasn't any sex, but that she wasn't mentioning it). And knowing that she (most likely) had sex with him does not bother me. But I'll be listening to her new album and she says a line like "he's taking off his clothes" and I'm like "GASP! YEE STARS, WHAT HAS THIS DEGENERATIVE WORLD COME TO?" Before I realize how ridiculous I'm being.

Well, umm... it depends on how you read the lyrics?

Personally, I've never heard the song, but reading the lyrics, some things do jump out at me. I'm not saying this is what she intended, but the lyrics can be interpreted in a different way.

There's this: "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?/The girl in the dress cried the whole way home" - could be his playing in general, but this to me could also mean an intimate night that went sour when he got what he wanted

And this: "Or maybe it's you and your sick need to give love then take it away." - sex could be part of the expressions of love, such as, he'll give sex but be ambivalent with emotional intimacy

She brings up the age thing a lot: "Don't you think nineteen's too young to be played by/Your dark twisted games when I loved you so"

And then there's this: "You are an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry" - inappropriate boundaries?

But then, I'm thoroughly convinced Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" is about buttsex, so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt.
