This. IP logging should be on always, Case, please. I don't get what advantage there is to turning it off. You know the people whining about it were the people who were trolling - no normal person is going to give a shit.

These stalker anons are fucking annoying at best, and borderline scary call-the-police at worst.

Please Case turn on IP and keep it on forever. :( I honestly don't care about most trolls, but the ones that stalk and harass users constantly, to the point of telling them to kill themselves, I don't see how that is okay even for trolling.

They still do it with it on, though. IP logging just means it's gotten to case so bad that's he's actually ticked.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Fucking this. Please turn it back on.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Another vote for turning it back on.

Another vote for turning it back on

Case - this is gross. Please do something about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, keep it off. Please. I don't like submitting secrets with it on.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Submit secrets from a different computer if it bothers you enough. Go to a library or school, borrow a friend's.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
So are you dethtoll's stalker, or..?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone's dismissing you here, but I feel the same way.

I've actually posted with my account (when I used it lol) on accident and ending up deleting and resubmitting. I trust case, but I still hate things to be able to be traced back to me.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me, everything you're doing online can be traced back to you, whether you post anonymously or not.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, but IP logging removes it a degree and I really doubt the NSA or my ISP even look at mine with much scrutiny. Case on the other hand, does look occasionally, even if he doesn't really care that secret number 2 and 7 are made by the same person. It also feels more personal too because it's a community here.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Turn it back on and I'll submit at least 3 secrets a week for the rest of the year.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I do that (and more) when there isn't IP log on.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah because Case writes down the IP of every secret, among the hundreds of secrets he receives a month, just to track you.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't put words in my mouth, please. I just feel uncomfortable with having my IP address connected to my secrets, even though I know case won't do anything about it, and since that uncomfort outweighs making and submitting secrets, I don't.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
So, instead of trying to overcome a fear that you know to be completely irrational, you give into it and allow it to control your actions.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I make secrets for fun though, so it's not like I actually need to do it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It is an irrational fear but I can sort of relate.

That being said, the trolls here are a special kind of basement dwelling losers. Jaybie's stalker seems to have driven her from the community, and detholl's stalker seems to have a fetish for him, and this post told him to kill himself like 40 times. It's astonishing to me that an individual can really just have such a lame life that they do this so relentlessly, but there are pathetic people in the world. Still, anon or not, it's extreme harassment and cyberbullying and even though I'm just an observer, it's frustrating as fuck.

Honestly, your discomfort and my discomfort against that? I'll suck it up, and you should too.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Jaybie forced herself off, all she had to do was admit she was wrong and promise to stop using trying to pass original fiction off as fanfic. The troll was trying to do her a favor by getting her onto an original writing track as early as possible. And also stopping another Shades of Gray or Mortal Instruments scandal in fandom. It was a win all around, but the little clique of yes men and concerners turned it into a pissing match that ultimately hurt Jaybie far more than they ever did the troll.

You should totally reinstate IP logging though, Case. I love getting the people that are worried about privacy, and getting them dogpiled on and trolled out of the community. Those guys we can safely lose, most of them do any worthwhile trolling so should be driven out.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
fake, and lame as fuck imo

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
da

Dude, what is wrong with you? It's just fic, who even cares THAT much? You're acting like she was committing a felony. I thought the OC stuff was a little annoying, but it wasn't harming anyone so there was not reason to bully her for it.

(also: did you mean "passing off fanfic as original fiction" instead of the other way around? Because that's what the authors of 50 Shades and Mortal Instruments did. Otherwise, it just means that she was creating original fiction and called it fanfic which...definitely wouldn't be harming anyone. Lots of people have fic that's massively OOC)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed that it should be left on. Paranoid anons will have to be content with reading, and half the paranoid anons are probably trolls trying to protect their anonymity.
