Actually, for favourite captain I am just going to have to go with Sisko. His character has always stayed with me, and moved me more than the other captains. I loved that
1) he was such a great father to his son, and dealt with being a single father throughout the show.
2) unlike Picard or Kirk, his first officer and head of security were non-Starleet personnel, who didn't fully respect the Federation, and he had to win their respect and trust. He also had to work with a host of other non-Starfleet people on the station
3) he had to deal with a precarious and often heart breaking post-conflict issue, and had to deal with some really messy morally grey issues
4) his first officer and science officer were both young women
5) He had to deal with being the Bajoran's chosen religous emissary
6) He truly fell in love with Bajor
