I think it probably depends on the context in which you mention it. In the context of e.g. looking for betas, or otherwise looking for advice to improve, it wouldn't be especially needy because you're actively trying to do something about it. If it's passive(-aggressive) "Oh, this fic gets so many more notes than mine, I wish mine got as many!" then it's more likely to set of warning bells for your readers.
