Let me just pull up my thirty-page essay of butthurt over here.

Sasuke and Sakura's character development - in Sasuke's case, the absurd inconsistency, in Sakura's case, the total lack of it. Team 7 just fell apart overall. I think only Kakashi came out of it okay, and even his arc had serious issues because his rival was way too overblown. To say nothing of the farce that was Naruto and Sasuke's epic friendship. If something is supposed to be the lynchpin of the story and the main character's motivation, it needs to actually, you know...exist.

The whole theme from Part 1 about hard work, willpower, and loyalty being as valuable, if not more so, than being born with a special bloodline...thrown right the fuck away in the Part 2. Naruto's not really a dead-last with a monster in him that's as much as handicap as it is a benefit, who has to use street smarts and sheer will to get ahead, oh, no, he's literally ordained by prophecy, bloodline, and reincarnation combined to save the world. Way to take a really interesting conflict and underdog hero make it the most generic Chosen One story ever. To say nothing about what happened to the team work theme. Naruto was literally carrying the final battle on his balls.

The less said about the Uchiha, the better. The story careened into an abyss the minute the narrative starting sucking Sharingan dick.

Agreed on both Sasuke and Sakura. Particularly Sakura. She was developed so well towards the end of part 1 and around the first arc of part 2. Then Sasuke came back and reset all her character development. Even when she was showing signs of improvement, she take one step forward and twenty steps back. And I really dislike the fact that Kishimoto seems to be heading for an ending where Sakura and Sasuke get together. Yuck. I'd rather Sakura not get together with anyone. Except maybe Ino. She's had more believable chemistry with her than Sasuke.

Not gonna lie, I did a spittake when you said Kakashi's rival was too overblown. Then I realized you meant Obito and not Gai. Shhh, Gai's the only rival Kakashi had. Obito. That never happened. It should have never happened, anyway.

Naruto and Sasuke's friendship was there in the first part, but I never thought it was super strong to warrant Naruto's utter devotion. But that's sort of the character Naruto is. Still doesn't excuse the shoddy writing of it.

I think that's what pisses me off tbh. Neji being right about fate. The hard work that characters like Lee went through to get where they are and get nothing for it. While other people get shit handed to them because destiny. Way to undermine Lee's poignant storyline and Neji's character development that came from his worldview being shatrered when beat by Naruto.

Sakura is the big tragedy of the manga, IMO, because Kishimoto kept handing us moments of her potential awesomeness and then pulling the rug out from under her for no reason. She's gonna try to assassinate Sasuke! Fail. She's finally surpassed Tsunade! Fail. She's finally gained Sasuke's recognition and is gonna shame him for his behavior! FAIL. It's almost comical. If she hooks up with him, not a table will be unflipped.

Yeah, the friendship was pretty good in the first part, and the first Valley of the End was flawless, but then it just...stopped for 98% of Part 2. Right now there's people on the forums going "omg Sasuke finally reciprocating Naruto's devotion is so perfect!" and I'm like...this shit should have happened about 300 chapters ago. It means nothing now.

Oh, god, no, Gai is one of the only things done right in the entire war arc. His conflict with Kisame, him holding his own against Big Douche (trying to limit spoilers), the flashback to his dad, it was beautiful. Then Naruto swooped in and stole Gai's thunder, because of course he would. Ugh, all of Gai's team got shafted really badly. What happened to Neji seemed like an allegory for crapping on Part 1's most meaningful moments.

I just wish I knew what went wrong. I've heard some stuff about Kishimoto wanting to end things shortly after the Pein arc and being urged on past it, which sort of make sense, since the resolution of that fight was the first real disappointment of Part 2 that I remember. If I had known how much worse things would get from there, I would have been happy to end on that cheesy note.

Exactly. Sasuke is just terrible for her and her character development. Just when you think she's over him and is gonna kick his ass for all the shit he's caused, she goes right back to being a schoolgirl with a crush. It is just super disappointing. I don't mind her forgiving him, but the mooning is ridiculous. I was hoping she'd get over her crush and realize that yes, she cares for Sasuke, but it wasn't romantic in nature anymore. It would have been a great character arc.

It was so one-sided in part 2. And no amount of half-assed flip-flopping on Sasuke's part makes me believe that he's suddenly going to be chummy with Naruto. It was just terribly written all around. It would have made more sense if it had happened sometime before the war arc, maybe. I dunno. Sasuke as a character has been so inconsistently written that I just have no idea anymore.

He really was! I'm so bitter that Gai didn't get to go out on his own terms, in a blaze of glory, protecting the people he loves. I don't understand why he couldn't have beaten Madara and have Kagua come out of Madara's pulverized body. Sure, it ends with Gai's sacrifice being a bit meaningless in the long run, but it would have been a bit better. At least Gai would have died knowing he'd helped out more than he did. I don't think Gai will be fine being utterly broken. We still don't even know how much Naruro healed him for fuck's sake.

I've never thought of Nehi's death that way. That certainly puts a new perspective and makes me more bitter about his death. Ugh. I'm kinda glad Lee and Tenten got shafted. Who knows what Kishimoto would have done with them.

Ending after the Pein arc would have been much better than what we got. And we still have two chapters and a movie to go before we see just how badly Kishimoto can wrap it up b
