Yeah, there is an argument. Its a losing argument, and it boils down to "tremble in fear populace and choose who you want as the crusher of your freedom the US Govt. or the people who risk their own life and limb to defend you". But As Cheney shows, you can convince a populace to back the US government as crusher of your own freedom as long as you scapegoat the right group while doing it.

For all their talk they are really big in favor of controlling governments, and in favor of discrimination by genetics. As rightwingers they are also in favor of secret courts and imprisonment without trial. The NRA are Republican nuts.
