Romance can be annoyingly overrepresented but it is, like you said, normal. I mean, we're basically evolutionarily programmed to avoid death and get sex to pass on our genes to future generations (and make sure those offspring survive to do the same). Conflicts surrounding that -- surviving, getting sex, protecting those we love -- are really compelling to us on a basic evolutionary level because for those it wasn't compelling to, they were less likely to successfully survive and reproduce, thus diluting their effects on the overall population.
