Reading about pairings you ship is the only reason to read fanfics. If I want a good gen story, I read a book, not a shitty fanfic.

And it's because of people like you that it's gotten shitty.

LOL! "gotten shitty". Most of fanfiction has always been "shitty" there was just less fic in general in the past.

Fanfic is honestly better than it used to be. There's still a ton of shit, but when I go back and read the 'big fics' from my earlier fandoms, they're so often much lower in quality than the big fics we see now.

I don't think it's the *only* reason to read them, but it's the only reason that *I* read/write them. If I wanted something general, I would read the book/watch the show/movie. I read fanfic for the pairings that I'm not getting on the show.

Obviously, that's not everyone, but I would certainly never tell someone to only read for pairings and I don't appreciate the implication that I shouldn't read only for pairings.

And I really, really don't understand the idea that just because *you* don't like pairings that they're somehow worse than non-pairing fics.

This is a personal thing, and expressing it this way makes you just as bad as OP. I'm the same way with fic, but being a dick isn't the best response, even if the other person is being a dick.
