Not Kaijin, but he is a bit pretentious and overly-artsy, isn't he? Not as bad as James Franco or someone like that, but in that direction.

so are, say, hugo weaving, michael fassbender and paul bettanny and these guys seem to be liked alright.

I find Hugo Weaving kind of similarly weird and I don't really know much about the other two, except that people seem to really like Fassbender

fassbender falls more in line with bettany in the sense that he's usually charming about it, but at the end of the day, it all amounts to the same thing: these actors are only taking these roles for the paycheck.

It's not just the paychecks thing, there's a whole ~~~true art~~~ thing that seems to be going on with Elba

Again, I think Franco is the best example of the kind of thing going, really

There have always been rumors that he can be a bit of jerk irl, although I'm not sure how trustworthy they are. It's unfortunate if he is, but it seems like a ton of actors have people saying the same thing so I guess it wouldn't be terribly surprising. I like to think that he's a nice guy, but that may just be because I really like some of his characters.
