Re: Lena Dunham

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)That said, it's more kids playing doctor than sexual abuse.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Lena Dunham
(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not saying what she did was perfectly fine. It was definitely wrong. But it's also not sexual abuse and trying to tar and feather her as a sexual abuser is wrong, and also pretty clearly politically motivated in its origin. It is something wrong that kids do, not sexual abuse.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)Yes, I will agree that it's different from an ADULT doing it. But it's still an abuse of the sister. Made even worse by the fact that she treats it like a "cute quirky little thing I did lol"
"But it's also not sexual abuse and trying to tar and feather her as a sexual abuser is wrong, and also pretty clearly politically motivated in its origin."
*eyeroll*
seriously? How is it wrong? She did a thing, she clearly doesn't have remorse (and its also pretty fucked up that she's airing this to the world despite her sister's feelings) and she should be able to face criticism. There's nothing "wrong" with criticizing a person for something they admitted to doing. What she did, bribing her sister with candy to do that shit is pretty damn predatory.
I'm so fucking sick of this "no you can't call it(be it abuse or rape) that when someone we LIKE does it". That's apology right there. "It's not rape/abuse when I/Person I like does it!"
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 12:33 am (UTC)(link)I agree with all of this, and I will repeat again that I think what she did was wrong, and it was certainly weird and wrong to write about it in her memoirs.
I also still don't think it makes sense to talk about it as abuse or rape, because it is not like those things. It has a superficial resemblance to those things, because of the comparison she makes to it, but it is not the same as those things. IMO it's massively disingenuous to say that what she did was rape or sexual abuse full-stop, and it appears to me that most people who are saying those things specifically are motivated by a disagreement with or dislike of Dunham.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)Your feminist icon was a predator and a perv when she was kid. Try dealing with it instead of being an apologist.
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 12:48 am (UTC)(link)The motivations just seem to be absurd, and more about giving people like you the opportunity to say things like the thing you just said than about any kind of justice or logic
AYRT
(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 12:59 am (UTC)(link)I'm a woman who in the past considered herself a feminist. and have been told a million plus times that "rape and abuse is BAD" (which it IS) and how "people who do this are scum" and expect you guys to be consistent and not hypocritical.
But noooo anyone who criticizes this person is bad and only doing it for the wrong reasons and must be a greasy neckbeard.
You are disgusting and a hypocrite.
I am not saying this out of some political agenda. I am saying these things because I believe what Lena did IS a kind of abuse even if she didn't "MEAN" it can be considered child abuse.
Re: AYRT
(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)I don't think it was abuse. It was wrong, but it was a wrong thing done by a child, and it was not abuse. I don't think there's anything to be gained by railroading Dunham as a child molester. It's ridiculous.
Re: AYRT
(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)You are unbelievable. Sorry there is no big fucking political agenda behind my opinion here. Stop trying to accuse me of ulterior motives. I just think what she did was abuse and that its disgusting that you're jumping through hoops to say it doesn't "count" and that anyone who believes it does can only be a bad person who's wrong.
CHILDREN CAN ABUSE. No I wouldn't call her a child molester, but I would say she abused her sister.
For fuck's sake.....

(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)People have different opinions on this, they're allowed to.
Now I'm not going to bother arguing with you, because it's clear you can't take another opinion without attacking the person having it as some kind of enemy.
Just grow up.
