Re: Representation of Black People in Hollywood Films

Compared to the plight of black people, yeah.

Those people who were murdered for mistakenly being thought of as Muslim, nawwww, that's totally nothing dawg.

I see we're still doing the Arab = Muslim thing, which is all the proof I need that you're an idiot who has no idea what they're talking about.

Are you really going to sit there and say that, in America, there isn't a widespread belief that Arab = Muslim and Muslim = terrorist, and that that hasn't caused problems for people of Arabic descent? I mean, are you really gonna fucking say that?

No, Arab-Americans don't have it as bad as black Americans, but there's still been an increase in racially motivated crimes committed against Arabs or people who are perceived to be Arabs in the years since 9/11. And you dismissing it as "oooooh but those weren't really Arabs oooooooh" is you deliberately obfuscating the point, which is that the term "Arab" has developed negative connotations. The fact that a lot of of people who are of Arabic descent get read as "white" or that a lot of people who are not of Arabic descent get read as "Arab" doesn't change that.

Thank you, we appear to agree! So why are you being a petulant moron

And you dismissing it as "oooooh but those weren't really Arabs oooooooh" is you deliberately obfuscating the point,

I'm not deliberately obfuscating the point. You're simply too stupid to see it. You're moving the goalposts because you like arguing. You are either OP (who is an idiot) or just some other anon who is so hyped up about arguing that you'll happily change the terms of that argument in a pathetic attempt to win points (another idiot)

What is your point then, if it isn't that the tendency to conflate "Muslim" and "Arab" hasn't led to bigotry toward Arabs?

Oh christ, you and your edits.

I haven't moved any goalposts. I'm arguing about one thing, which is you acting like the conflation of "Muslim" with "Arab" is a reason to completely dismiss an argument about discrimination. The discrimination that happens is because of that conflation.

And I contend that that still isn't as bad as what's faced by black people. Which you appear to agree with. But care more about creating an argument and then attempting to win it.

You being right about one thing doesn't mean that it's okay for you to be talking bullshit about something else, or that no one can call you on it. But keep being defensive and shifting shit around instead of acknowledging the point.

Oh, and another thing. You're always one to talk about "lived experiences," but now you're here dismissing the lived experiences of someone else because YOU haven't personally experienced it.

Chard, you are a fucking hypocrite and a colossal piece of shit. You're encased in an academic ivory tower and god forbid you come down here and live life with the rest of us plebes.

Oh yes of course, everything revolves around grades in college. Since you've never actually lived in the real world, I guess it makes sense that that's the only currency you understand.

Laying it on a bit thick, are we? But that's unsurprising. You don't have much to begin with so you try to concentrate it.

IDGI.

Anon: "To be honest, Arab people have it way worse in American now than black people at the moment"
You: "I'm saying clearly things aren't as bad for ARABS IN AMERICA as they are for BLACK PEOPLE"
Anon: "No, Arab-Americans don't have it as bad as black Americans"
Anon: "you are a fucking hypocrite and a colossal piece of shit"

Yeah, Chard. Clearly you are the worst. Bluh bluh stuff about your grades.
