And it is pretty harmless, but experiencing stress and requesting emotional support because of the non-canonicalness of a pairing which was never going to be canon gets old.

Okay I can see where that would be really, really annoying. I presumed that it was just some random person online, but if it's a person you have to deal with in person and often then…yeah…they really should tone it down.
