Nobody seems upset with Terry Pratchett for keeping on writing Discworld stories (well, some people who feel his last couple of books have been affected by his inability to self-edit) or publishing a Discworld Companion. Why are people getting upset with JK doing it? My complaint is she isn't putting out enough. Come on, a couple more standalone novels isn't too much to ask.

There's a significant difference between writing more novels for a universe and doing what Rowling is largely doing, i.e. publishing essays or other non-novel works with additional material.

As for his last few novels, I'm not sure people think it's an inability to self-edit so much as it might be his Alzheimer's worsening.

Terry Pratchett's type of alz* is what prevents him self-editing. He has to narrate everything, so cannot do a proper edit for an on-page copy. You can see that really coming through in his last novel, Raising Steam, where the voices and silly accents really lend themselves to the narration but are dire on page.

Because her new material interferes with people's precious (and probably far-fetched) headcanons.

Apparently the blood-quill thing blew a lot of fanon into little bits.

Note she never refuted the raped-by-centaur theory though.
