The Force Awakens

What do you think of it?

Me, I don't like it. I'll explain more in a bit. But what do you guys think?

I'm trying to care and I really just can't.

It's a dumb title. It sounds dumb, it does not indicate anything meaningful about the tone, and it's redundant.

I like it better than 'The Phantom Menace'.

Meh, the title could be better, but I'm still excited for the movie.

I'm thinking that after the last three movies I'll be saving my money and not seeing this madness.

I uh ... I have to say it sounds like the setup for a lot of ERP. :p

It is really fucking lame goddamn

Not that any of the other titles including A New Hope are good.

I didn't know three words could get a fandom so riled.

Whatever...I still want to see it, that doesn't really mean anything to me.

I find it rather dull, but great complete the sentence joke fodder:

The Force Awakens, but then hits the snooze button.

I'm still interested in the movie, but honestly some of the places my mind took me with that title I don't like.

I think "Awakes" would sound more dynamic than "Awakens". Other than that, it is suffering from James Bond Movie Title syndrome. Where they just want something sounds cool and like a Star Wars film rather than it actually being a title that comes from within the story. Its just a generic Star Wars-ish sounding title. I could think up several different and more applicable titles based just on the leaks so far.

Not that I care, they lost me from this movie when they chopped off Chewbacca's arm. Goddamit, Lucas isn't even involved in this movie and we've still got to deal with the amputation fetish.

Doesn't sound bad to me. Even if I am being cautious in my enthusiasm for this film.

So…my spoiler-y post is visible. Kind of a fuck-up on my part…not sure how to fix it.

Anyway, I'm not very fond of the title for several reasons:

1. It sounds pretty generic
2. It reminds me too much of The Force Unleashed
3. It doesn't fit with the pattern established by previous trilogies -- with episodes IV and I, the titles -- A New Hope and The Phantom Menace -- both referred to a person (Episode IV to Luke and perhaps Leia while Episode I could refer to Maul, Anakin, or Palpatine)

Not a big deal but…not really that excited about it either. I feel like they're very much playing it safe with the title. Attack of the Clones got a lot of flack for the title, but I always really liked it, not just because it mirrored Empire Strikes Back but also because it subtly reminded audiences that it was the Republic that first launched an attack with troops and, interestingly, that the clones were the Republic's soldiers.

It's just going to take a while to collapse since it's still early in the post, no worries

I agree on all points. (The first thing I thought of was The Force Unleashed. I haven't exactly read up on episode VII so I'm not sure if we actually have an idea what it's about or not, but the title tells me shit.)

Not fitting the cycle is fine to me, actually. Because I think you can make the argument that this is now outside the cycle of the first 6 movies, and so it's OK to break those patterns, it doesn't have to rhyme anymore.

That said, it is really generic and pointless.
