Re: Hydra aren't nazis in the MCU

Johan Schmidt was going to destroy Berlin so I think it's pretty clear that they turned their back on the Nazi Party.

What I think some people are asking, though, is whether Hydra still holds to Nazi ideology regardless. Because Schmidt, like Hitler, was obsessed with creating the "superior man" -- so much so that he injected himself with an incomplete formulation of the serum.

This is a quote from the movie tie in comic

"We know that the superior man will not be born, Professor Erskine. He will not be a member of any "master race". He will be a race unto himself. And you are going to help me make him."
"You...work with Nazis even though you do not follow their ideology?"
―Johann Schmidt and Abraham Erskine

So he did want to create a superior man, but I don't think he shared hitler's ideology of certain races being inferior.

I suppose.

But if he's still hellbent on cleansing those he believes are inferior then he's really no better than the Nazis -- he's just moved the goalposts.

Does Hydra just want to rule the world? Or does it actively seek to slaughter the "inferior" to make way for the "superior."

If it's the former then I can agree they aren't quite as bad as the Nazis. If it's the latter then they've just repainted the brand.

What about project Insight?

Genocide is genocide no matter how you look at it.

But Project Insight evaluated people as threats based on a lot of things (I think Sitwell even said SAT scores funnily enough). It wasn't really race or ethnicity based but more examined people and their positions (such as voting records) to target those who might pose a threat to Hydra. I don't' really know if you can call that genocide since it's an algorithm deciding based on pretty impartial parameters.

It's still horrific murder but genocide targets a group that specifically shares an immutable characteristic (like a race, ethnicity, heritage, etc.)

Ok. That's fair distinction.

I think they just want to rule the world.

if they wanted to wipe out races they deemed inferior, they could have used project insight for that, instead of only going after people they deemed a potential threat to them (the majority being people involved in the government or military).

I saw a fanvid made with that song and scenes from Winter Soldier ... it was heartbreaking.
