I watched Elfen Lied as a teenager and couldn't quite decide if I liked it or not. The dark parts were a bit more interesting, but the awkward harem cutsy stuff was really cringe-worthy. I haven't seen it since but even thinking back on it, it actually is just terrible. Edgy describes the dark bits perfectly.

That being said, I still would love invisible tentacles as a super power.

I know I felt sad about the dog dying, but yeah the whole scene was somewhat over the top. But then I watched this because I thought the psychic arms were cool.

Elfen Lied in general had so many exploding people that you become immune to it after a certain point. Messed up to laugh about someone beating a puppy to death with a vase, though.

I tried watching Elfen Lied once, but I almost immediately went "This... is dumb" and didn't bother with it after that.

It was just trying so hard that it became boring.
